we were lucky enough to have family come visit us from canada over the past few days. i have been a bum about getting pictures of Ruby with her cousins (do you know how hard it is to get a 16 month-old and an almost-3-year-old to stand still at the same time, in the same place??), but she's been in heaven having them around. Roo's happy as a clam just following cousin Cooper around and watching his every move. she's quite the observer. plus occasionally she'll steal a little kiss from baby Emry which melts my heart (i may be feeling the beginnings of baby fever coming on).
i don't think our visitors really knew what they were getting in to when they planned a trip to the states for the fourth of july. they were good sports, nonetheless.
here's a bit of what we did for our fourth of july celebrations.
sparklers in the backyard. this was taken before bedtime and the sparklers were a bit dinky in the light. she still managed to enjoy them though.
we headed up to liberty last night to watch their fireworks show and meet up with family. we kept the babes up way past bedtime and everything. we're pretty hard core like that.
Roo was in heaven being surrounded by people. she loved weaving through the crowd, waving at everyone she passed. needless to say, we had to keep a pretty good eye on her to make sure she didn't go home with the wrong family.
they had the sweetest little caterpillar train for the kids. Roo and cousin Coop had a ride with Tyler in the caboose.
Ruby was so adorable on it. as soon as the train started moving, she leaned back and started waving at everyone like a little queen.
aunt Christa and uncle Adam were smart and brought glow bracelets for the kids to play with. they were a huge hit.
i coerced Tyler in to putting on a glow necklace and posing with me for a cheesy picture. he's such a good sport.
Ruby couldn't be bothered to interrupt her snack to look at the camera, but at least it's a realistic shot, right?

now let me tell you, i was prepared for Ruby to be a little jumpy when the fireworks show started. she's a really jumpy baby to begin with. i tried to prepare her by having her watch videos of fireworks in advance, but it's just not the same.
this picture pretty much sums up how the fireworks show went.
this child was horrified. i have never seen such a look of complete terror on her face before. as soon as the show started she started screaming/bawling and ran to me like she was being chased by a monster. she spent the rest of the show curled up in my arms, hiding under her bunny. she stopped crying after a couple of minutes, but she didn't stop shaking until about an hour after the fireworks stopped. i felt so bad for the poor little lamb. hopefully she won't be too traumatized to go to the show next year.
so the fireworks show didn't go as well as i had hoped, but we still had a great fourth of july.
