miss Roo, lately

our little miss Ruby has become quite the character and i feel like i've completely neglected documenting all of the quirky, adorable bits about her for a while. in an effort to recap...

she knows pretty much every nursery rhyme song (itsy bitsy spider, 1-2-buckle my shoe, bah bah black sheep, mary had a little lamb, etc.) and wants to sing all. the. time. she is especially enthusiastic about twinkle twinkle little star.

she has quite the vocabulary and almost never stops talking. she's shy about meeting new people, but as soon as you get her talking, she can just go and go.

she is little miss manners lately. i hardly ever have to remind her to say her please and thank you's and she even goes above and beyond with "you're welcome," "excuse me," and "no, thank you." it's pretty funny when i ask her to do something (ex: eat your dinner) and she replies with a frank "no, thank you." i mean!

she's started to play games with me while we drive (rhyming, i spy, etc) and she's VERY aware of the car and our surroundings. she announces every time we get to a light ("it's a red light! red says 'stop!' oh! it turned green! go, mommy! go!"). she gets upset when i turn or go "the wrong way." she's a serious backseat driver.

she absolutely adores being outside but hates getting dirty. she will cry for 20 minutes if she gets mud on her hands.

she loves having her toenails painted. every time they catch her eye she has to show everyone ("oh look! look at my pretty toes! my mommy painted my toenails! thank you mommy! thank you for my pretty toenails! they're so so pretty!") i kind of love it and it makes me want to keep them painted for her.

she has a bit of an attitude. we're working on it, but holy moley! this child is strong willed!
ex:

every time i put hairspray in her hair she says "ooohoho! sooo nummy!" i have no idea where this came from.

she's become kind of a picky eater. she only likes her fruits and veggies raw, she doesn't like anything with seasoning or dressing on it, meat is still a no-go, she doesn't like her foods to mix (one at a time, please!), and she hates pretty much all "kid food" (hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, tater tots, pizza, etc.). i realize it could be far worse, but getting this girl to try new things is a bit of a struggle these days.

she loves to read and will listen to you read every book on the shelf if you let her. just be ready to have her correct you if you don't read it "the right way."

she has finally graduated to the "big girl" stage. when all of her friends were thrilled about being "big girls" she wanted nothing to to with it. when i asked "but don't you want to be a big girl?" she always replied with a spirited "NO! i'm a baby!" she even insisted she was treated like a baby at all times (even asking to be swaddled and burped). needless to say, with potty training just around the corner (ack!) i'm happy to hear her say she's finally interested in being a "big girl."

we absolutely love the little sweetheart Ruby has become and can't wait to see even more of her personality unfold.
