Roo's 1st birthday party

we had Ruby's first birthday party yesterday! i was trying to keep the budget as low as possible, so i ended up making almost everything and kept it pretty simple. 

THE INVITES:

THE FOOD:

we served fruit salad, sandwiches, cupcakes, and snack cups for the little ones.

aren't those cake stands fun? i made them using dollar store plates and candlesticks. six bucks for both! also, a friend told me about a local bakery that gives out free cakes for first birthdays. am i thrifty or what?!

THE PARTY ANIMAL:

Ruby was a little shy when people started showing up, but she quickly warmed up to everyone.

she loved playing with her friends and sharing her toys.

THE CAKE:

once it was time for cake she was adorable! she made the funniest faces while she decided what to do with it. 

she poked at it and licked the frosting off of her fingers, but she didn't show a ton of interest. she mostly wanted to go back to playing with her friends. 

THE GIFTS:

present time came and all she wanted to do was cuddle on my lap and watch me open them for her. 

she got lots of books, which is perfect because she loves them. she ignored everything else.

the rest of the party was spent playing with balloons (biggest hit of the party) and visiting with friends. 

and the party ended with a birthday head stand.

i'd say it was a success.
