Ruby's first cupcake

Ruby's birthday was pretty low key at our house.
i made pink, #1 pancakes for breakfast,
we ran birthday errands all day, had Ruby's favorite dinner (cilantro lime rice and tortillas), and she had a cupcake for dessert.
We kept saying, "look Ruby! it's your very own cupcake!" and clapped our hands so she got really excited.
as soon as she got it in front of her she had no idea what to do with it. we let her try the frosting, but she didn't want to touch it.
curiosity finally took over and she tried to touch it, but as soon as she realized she now had icing on her hands she was not happy. she kept holding her hands out and looking frustrated because they were dirty.
we kept coaxing her to dig in, but she just sat there unimpressed. finally, as if to say, "you want me to touch it? fine. here you go." she grabbed the whole thing with both hands and smashed it into bits.
not once did she put a crumb in to her mouth.
what a little goose.
maybe we'll do better with her cake tomorrow...
